The heart marks the affective relationship between devotee, community, and lwa: devotion, fear, joy, and the intensity of service are all expressed through bodily feeling. This is a symbolic heart-region projection drawn from ethnographic accounts, not a claim that one universal lwa essence resides in the physical heart.
